SUPPORT THE POWER TO WOMEN BLACK MARKET - STAND FOR THE DTES!

-----------------------------------
Sunday March 15th
from 1-3 pm
Vancouver Police Station
Main Street (between Hastings and Cordova)
-----------------------------------

All (including men) welcome!

Significant
street sweeps have been occurring in the DTES from increased and
aggressive ticketing for things like jaywalking to "illegal" vending.
As verified by the VPD itself, a year-end performance report shows that
officers issued 467 tickets for violations of the Safe Streets Act in
2008, compared to 202 tickets in 2007. Police officers also handed out
133 tickets for violations of the Trespass Act, up from 95 in 2007.

Play Music Not Politics - Concert and BBQ for Insite with Bedouin Soundclash.

Last night, the DTES was the stage for a drizzly, rainy night outdoor concert and bbq event! With the streets at Main and Hastings to Columbia and Hastings blocked off, the long awaited "Previously Canceled Show by the VPD Cops"made famous by a mob of angry but civil protesters and many witnessing TV and Radio Station News crews descending onto the one street of 100 block Hastings, made their triumphant return with full support of everyone from City Hall to the humble DTES citizen.

Vigil at the Pickton Farm Saturday

November 22nd, 2008 by raincoaster

From Jamie Lee Hamilton:

Hi Friends

This Saturday November 22 at 11am there is a vigil at the Pickton Farm.

There
is pressure being brought against the government not to pave over the
land and re-develop for condos. It would be tragic to do this to the
women who lost their lives there.

Many groups are coming
together and would like to see the land created as memory gardens. A
place of healing and a place of remembrance. There is a plan if
successful, that a $400,000 yearly Women's Legacy Fund would be created
to honour the women who were horrendously brutalized out there.

From
the tragedy the women would be providing gifts in the form of
scholarships or treatment and prevention programs. Their lives become
memorialized forever in a positive way.

I have recently become
involved as a liaison to the DTES community for this effort and I see
the potential that the women who were victimized and others who
survived become part of lasting legacies created from this horrendous
genocide. Moreover, family members, friends and loved ones of the
deceased will have a place to gather, lay flowers, honour and remember
their loved ones.

There will be a bus leaving the Pendera at 133
West Pender St 9:45 am this Saturday Nov 22. I ask you to join me for
this pilgrimage out to the farm. Coffee, juices and muffins will be
served and the vigil will last for 40 minutes and the bus will return
us back to the Pendera.

Please share with your friends and let me know whether you can attend as we want to have enough buses.

Thanks

Technocracy and Native Rights

November 21st, 2008 by antianti

On Saturday, November 29th, I will be at a free conference on native rights that will begin at 1pm and go until 5pm at SFU Harbour Centre.

At 3pm I will leave the conference early to take the Skytrain at the very close by Waterfront Station to Surrey Centre Skytrain where I will catch the 4pm bus that will take me all the way to Aldergrove to go to the 7pm Technocracy Current Events Class.  There will be a $7 meal at 5:30pm at Technocracy, which means that if you do not have a bus pass, it will cost you $2.50 twice plus $7 for the meal, for a total of $12.

If you do not have $12 but would like to go Technocracy on Saturday, November 29th, I will be selling my $5 anti-homelessness pre-bonds at 12:45 pm at SFU Harbour Centre, all proceeds going to paying for the trip to Techocracy for all those without the funds.

Thank You Supporters

In the last Vancouver Civic Election of 2008 I was on the ballot for both Vancouver Parks and School Board.  Of both 20 candidates for Parks Board and 19 for School Board, I had the less amount of any of the 20 or 19, I was dead last in both.  Aproximatly 5,000 for Parks Board and 10,000 for School Board.

NPA only had 8 candidates of the most of 9 to chose for School Board so perhaps many of that 10,000 comes from NPA supporters who did not want to give that extra vote to either Vision or Cope.  However, to all those who did more then incidently vote for me, my many thanks.
