Media
Representatives from the Downtown Eastside’s technology, arts, and
social services sectors come together to imagine and build pioneering
media infrastructure and resources. The inaugural project was Fearless: Arts & Issues from the DTES, a 10,000 circulation printed tabloid published in 2006 that has since evolved into the website www.fearlesscity.ca.
The other main project is Fearless Mobile, which has received a grant
from New Media BC’s Mobile Muse 3 program. It runs until March 2009 and
brings cutting edge mobile technology to DTES artists and residents.

can accomodate you.At the Lore Krill Housing Co-op Meeting Room (ground
floor), 65 West Cordova Street, 1:00-3:00 pm.
The Oct 1st meeting will be our monthly Fearless Media Cluster meeting. It will be focused on organizing and strategy. It is still open to the public, however if you are mainly interested in the creative aspects of the project it might be a bit boring.

Another attempt to get through...Fearless Festival, Steve reads at Blackwater Cafe
[video]
I have been trying to post umpteen videos. When you search my blog, only one item will show, from early July of Robert's Critical Mass video, but when I'm logged in, I can see the umpteen videos I posted. I don't know why this is the case. Someone please fix the 'bug' in the system that makes my blog look like it's completely abandoned when in reality it gets lots of tlc from me!
If this gets through, it's Steve reciting poetry. I don't know his last name.
P.S. If it doesn't show, it can be viewed at:
What a wonderful Fearless Fesival
I attended the Fearless Festival and I was so happy to see all of the people there! :) I was nervous because I was to film footage and I hadn't even touched the camera :) Thanks to Amy for allowing me to use her camera, and Scott for giving me a quick tutorial on the camera. :)
The Interurban gallery was full of life! Magical and very slightly mayhem-ish :) When I walked in, right smack in the middle was EWAC, the Emerging Women Ar Co-op, who had beautiful jewelry to sell. They are now on their own, previously been housed at Atira's office at Columbia and Cordova. I was happy to speak with Sandra, one of the co-op members who spoke at length about her involvement with the festival. I was very glad that the ladies at the EWAC were there.. I am so proud of them for being entrepeuners and I was touched that they had remembered me when I was trying to be part of the EWAC :)
I ran into Ali, of Carnegie who was enjoying the festival and gave me a few pointers on how to film :) Thanks Ali :)
Behind them were the sweet songs from members of the City Opera! What a thril to be able to hear such amazing voice; we citizens of the DTES were certainly given a rare almost private performance than normally many of us wouldn't be able to go and see :) The other musical acts sounded wonderful and added to the ambience of the fesival. :)
I haven't seen so many happy faces! People from the street came to view the different acts and I notice them leaving with a smile, flourishing on the adrenaline and positive energy that the Fearless Festival participants were giving off :) What a beautiful feeling! :) I wonder if this is how W2 is going to be like. I can't wait! :)
Fearless Mobile in the DTES
Fearless Media is one of the most active DTES Community Arts Network clusters these days. You may have spotted Fearless Medians at one or more of the recent festivals in town, sporting their red Fearless shirts and armed with cell phone cameras, and wondered what they were up to. Fearless Media is working on two major projects right now. One is this website. The other is Fearless Mobile.
Fearless Media participants are currently training on and experimenting with mobile video phones, primarily at public events. This fall, they will be getting access to newer phones and a mobile platform being developed by Mobile Muse, a local new technology company. When that happens, Fearless Mobile will move into the world of live streaming. Rather than simply documenting and interpreting events through video, Fearless Media will become part of the event experience. What they capture on their unassuming mobile devices will be streamed onto live screens and/or the internet.
